MICKAEL MARSO RIVIERE /COMPANY DECALAGE
in collaboration with Navala Chaudhari and Jason Kalidas

Will be performing in a new season at The Place called Touch Wood.

+ other works from Shane Shambhu, Sally Marie, Fernanda Prata & Vinicius Salles

You will have a chance to see a new 12min work in progress that we have been working on during this summer...

“A trio based on live communication between 2 dancers and a musician, using Bansuri (flute) and Tabla.
This piece portrays the instinctive elements of dance relating to the spontaneity of the music delivery, with concepts inspired from Bboyin, Capoeira and contemporary dance”

The unfinished piece is open to feedback for further development! So please make sure you put this date in your diary!

A season of naked ideas danced on a bare wooden floor

What can you expect?
Touch Wood is a new season of works in progress and just completed pieces running from Tue 11 Sep – Sat 6 Oct, with each unique night coming together at the last moment: perfect miniatures, embryonic epics, slapstick solutions, false starts and unforeseen consequences - a safe Place to risk and dare on a bare stage because the artists will always be able to touch wood.

Did you say "naked"?
It's the ideas (and the floor) that's naked, and not the peformers (contrary to what you may have heard). The image is, like, a metaphor.

WORKSHOPS

The Electric Boogaloos
Advanced Workshop
Tuesday 15th May // 10am-12 noon // £5/£4
DanceXchange // Level 5 // Birmingham Hippodrome // Thorp Street // Birmingham
As part of Birmingham Hippodrome's Breakin’ Convention -DanceXchange will host an advanced workshop with the group responsible for the creation of the dance styles known worldwide as popping and boogaloo - the Electric Boogaloos!

Electric Boogaloo style is combining popping and boogaloo style together. The two styles compliment each other well and is known worldwide as the signature style of the EB's.

“The term "funk styles" was coined to give what we do it's own identity and separate it from hip-hop. Popping, locking and boogaloo were styles that were created in the West Coast during the Funk Era, and while these styles were adopted into the hip-hop movement, its roots should still be recognized as pure funk. Hence the term, Funk Styles.”       The Electric Boogaloos

This workshop opportunity is part of Breakin’ Convention - Sadler's Wells internationally acclaimed Hip Hop Dance Theatre Festival and in conjunction with DanceXchange and Birmingham Hippodrome.

It is suitable for professional dancers, 3rd Year dance students, recent dance graduates, Poppers, Lockers and Advanced level B-boys (18yrs+).
